5 exercises for ADHDers with creative block

As some of you may know, I’ve been working on a book! In this process, I’ve had some hurdles and thought maybe I could pay forward some exercises that help me with my writing and my art! So here are five exercises that can help with creative block for ADHDers

1. Word Association: Start with a random word and write down the first word that comes to mind. Keep going until you have a list of 10-20 words. Look at the list and see if any interesting connections or themes emerge. Use these connections or themes as inspiration for your next creative project.

2. Mind Mapping: Take a blank piece of paper and write down a central idea or problem you want to solve. Then, start brainstorming related ideas and concepts around it, connecting them with lines and arrows. This can help you visually see different ideas and how they relate to each other, which can spark new creative ideas.

3. Constraint-based Creativity: Give yourself a specific constraint or limitation to work within. For example, create a design using only three colours, or write a poem that doesn’t use any adjectives. These constraints can actually help you focus your creativity and come up with unique solutions.

4. Creative Writing Prompts: Look up creative writing prompts online and choose one that speaks to you. Set a timer for 10-15 minutes and write freely without worrying about grammar or structure. This can help you tap into your creative flow and generate new ideas.

5. Visual Inspiration: Create a mood board or collage of images that inspire you. Cut out pictures from magazines or print them from online and arrange them in a way that visually speaks to you. This can help you tap into your visual creativity and spark new ideas for your creative projects.
